A Nashik-based occult practitioner has been booked under the Maharashtra Anti-Black Magic Act and cheating charges for allegedly defrauding a couple of Rs 7.5 lakh over four years. The accused, a mantrik, initially promised to cure the woman's asthma through rituals. Later, he promised a 'money shower' and prosperity at their home in exchange for money. The couple was reportedly blindfolded during journeys and rituals. After the promised wealth did not materialise, the woman realised she had been duped and approached the police with help from an anti-superstition group.
