Student Activists Demand Full Fee Waiver Amid Drought

Times of India · education

Student activists in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar have labelled the government's exam fee waiver for drought-hit students as 'tokenism'. They argue that exam fees, typically ₹500-₹1,000, are insignificant compared to other educational costs like admission, tuition, hostel, and transport fees, which can range from ₹5,000 to over ₹50,000 annually. Activists are demanding a complete fee waiver for students from drought-affected farmer families, warning that many could drop out without substantial relief. They also urged private institutions to contribute to fee waivers.
