Protesters Hospitalised, Protest Site Cleared By Police

Police in Varanasi cleared an indefinite hunger strike protest site at Shastri Ghat on Sunday. Three protesters, who had been on hunger strike for five days, were hospitalised due to deteriorating health. The protest, which had been ongoing for over a month, opposed University Grants Commission (UGC) policies. Following the hospitalisation, supporters of the protest threatened to intensify their agitation against UGC rules perceived as discriminatory. Police have deployed forces at the hospital to maintain order.

वाराणसी में पुलिस ने रविवार को शास्त्री घाट पर चल रहे अनिश्चितकालीन भूख हड़ताल के विरोध स्थल को खाली करा दिया। पांच दिनों से भूख हड़ताल पर बैठे तीन प्रदर्शनकारियों की तबीयत बिगड़ने पर उन्हें अस्पताल में भर्ती कराया गया। एक महीने से अधिक समय से चल रहे इस विरोध प्रदर्शन में यूनिवर्सिटी ग्रांट्स कमीशन (UGC) की नीतियों का विरोध किया जा रहा था। प्रदर्शनकारियों के अस्पताल में भर्ती होने के बाद, समर्थकों ने भेदभावपूर्ण मानी जा रही UGC के नियमों के खिलाफ अपना आंदोलन तेज करने की धमकी दी है। पुलिस ने अस्पताल में व्यवस्था बनाए रखने के लिए बल तैनात किया है।
