IIT-Bombay Revises Exam Cheating Rules After Student Suicide

IIT-Bombay has introduced an interim Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for its mid-semester examinations on October 10-11, reverting to a milder policy from April 2015. This change follows the suicide of a student allegedly caught copying. Under the new rules, students caught cheating will receive a fresh answer book and bags will be allowed in the exam building. Faculty will record suspected dishonesty, and students can provide their version of events. Counsellors will be alerted to signs of stress or cheating to provide immediate support.
