Indian Equities Underperform Global Peers Amidst Outflows
Economic Times Markets · stocks
Indian equities have seen significant underperformance over the past two years, with the Sensex losing 13.6% and the Nifty 11.6%. This decline occurred as foreign investors pulled out over Rs 2.17 lakh crore, though strong domestic mutual fund inflows of Rs 4.98 lakh crore cushioned the impact. Sectoral casualties like IT and FMCG deepened the underperformance, influenced by global factors such as the AI trade, West Asia crisis, and a weaker rupee. However, valuations have cooled, making Indian equities relatively cheaper than many global peers.
