Madras HC Seeks Report On Cops' Pending Cases

The Madras High Court has directed the Director General of Police to submit a report detailing the number of criminal cases pending against police officials and their duration. The court also requested information on any departmental proceedings initiated against officers involved in such cases. Justice B Pugalendhi issued this directive while hearing a petition concerning a police constable candidate's rejection due to a pending criminal case. The judge noted that serving officers involved in criminal cases often continue without disciplinary action, questioning the department's adherence to purity standards.
