Goa Chamber of Commerce Mediates Meat Shops' Cold-Chain Compliance

Times of India · business

The Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) is working to help small meat retailers meet Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) cold-chain norms. Many traditional meat shops face financial burdens and space constraints in complying with directives on displaying beef and mutton. The FDA has raised concerns about meat exposure to ambient temperatures, which can accelerate bacterial growth. GCCI is exploring solutions like decentralized mini-slaughterhouses at the taluka level and localized abattoirs with chilling facilities to improve food safety and reduce logistical difficulties for vendors.
