SC Denies Relief to Jharkhand IAS Officer

The Supreme Court has refused to quash a trial court order taking cognisance of a money laundering case against Jharkhand IAS officer Pooja Singhal. The officer's counsel argued that sanction to prosecute under Section 197 of the CrPC was not granted. However, the Enforcement Directorate stated there was a provision for 'automatic deemed sanction'. The bench noted that it must be ascertained if Singhal was discharging her official functions. The trial in the money laundering case will now continue.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने झारखंड की IAS अधिकारी पूजा सिंघल के खिलाफ़ मनी लॉन्ड्रिंग मामले में ट्रायल कोर्ट के संज्ञान लेने के आदेश को रद्द करने से इनकार कर दिया है। अधिकारी के वकील ने कहा कि CrPC की धारा 197 के तहत अभियोजन की मंजूरी नहीं मिली थी। लेकिन ED ने कहा कि 'ऑटोमैटिक डीम्ड सैंक्शन' का प्रावधान है। कोर्ट ने कहा कि यह देखना होगा कि क्या सिंघल अपना सरकारी काम कर रही थीं। अब मनी लॉन्ड्रिंग मामले में सुनवाई जारी रहेगी।
