Israel Chess Chief Slams FIDE Over Forfeits

Israel's men's and women's chess teams forfeited their Round 6 matches at the 2026 Chess Olympiad in Samarkand due to a scheduling dispute over Yom Kippur. The Israel Chess Federation accused FIDE of failing to honour prior written commitments for adjusted game times. Opponents the Netherlands and Bulgaria declined FIDE's proposals for later starts or rescheduling, leading to the forfeits. Federation chief Zvika Barkai expressed extreme anger over FIDE's actions.

समरकंद में 2026 Chess Olympiad में, योम किप्पुर की वजह से इजरायल की पुरुष और महिला शतरंज टीमों ने अपने राउंड 6 के मैच छोड़ दिए। इजरायल Chess Federation ने FIDE पर आरोप लगाया कि उन्होंने पहले किए गए लिखित वादों का सम्मान नहीं किया। उनके विरोधी, नीदरलैंड्स और बुल्गारिया ने FIDE के बाद में मैच शुरू करने या रीशेड्यूल करने के प्रस्तावों को ठुकरा दिया, जिससे इजरायल को वॉकओवर देना पड़ा।
