Nagaland Civil Society Groups Demand Lifting of Liquor Ban
The Hindu · india
Civil society organisations in Nagaland's commercial hub, Dimapur, have demanded the repeal of the 37-year-old Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act. They argue the ban has failed to prevent the flow of liquor and has led to deaths from spurious alcohol. Citing a recent incident where 19 people died from adulterated liquor, the groups propose regulated sales with age and quantity restrictions. The Naga Council Dimapur submitted a memorandum suggesting a one-year trial of controlled liquor sales in Dimapur, aiming for government oversight and quality control.
