Hundreds of residents from the Russian-occupied Ukrainian town of Oleshky have been transported to Belarus as part of a major evacuation mission. Four planes carrying evacuees arrived in Gomel, where they were met by rescue workers and Red Cross volunteers. The civilians, who began their journey in bus convoys, were offered the choice of travelling to Ukrainian- or Russian-held territory, or remaining in the city. The evacuation was facilitated under a regional truce, with reports suggesting US First Lady Melania Trump helped broker the mission.
