Indian Automobile Retail Sales Drop 24% in October Due to High Base Effect

The Hindu - Business · business

Total vehicle retail sales in India fell by 24% year-on-year in October, reaching 31,72,466 units, according to FADA data. This decline is attributed to a high base effect from the previous year when festivals coincided with post-GST rate cuts. While two-wheelers and passenger vehicles saw significant drops, commercial vehicles, three-wheelers, and tractors experienced growth. FADA President Sai Giridhar stated that the sequential jump of 25% from September indicates deferred demand rather than destroyed demand, with rural and two-wheeler segments expected to lead in November.
