The Supreme Court has dismissed a PIL that sought guidelines for appointing ministers with criminal charges. A bench comprising CJI Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi, and Justice V. Mohana rejected the plea, stating that creating such guidelines would be difficult. The petitioner argued for parameters to ensure the judicious use of discretion in selecting ministers and allocating portfolios, citing an analysis that nearly half of all MLAs face serious criminal charges. The court questioned whether it should interfere with the executive's discretion in such matters.
