Women Enter Male-Dominated Trades at Odisha ITIs, Boosting Technical Skill Enrollment
Times of India · education
Women are increasingly enrolling in traditionally male-dominated technical trades at Odisha's Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), including electrician, fitter, and solar technology courses. This academic session, women constitute 14.6% of total admissions, with 8,782 out of 60,146 students being female. While some institutes still see women dominating courses like sewing, their presence is growing in electrical, mechanical, and emerging technology fields. This trend indicates a broader exploration of vocational education and career opportunities by female students, moving beyond conventional trades.
