SC trusts Speaker to decide MLA disqualification plea

The Supreme Court stated it believes the West Bengal Assembly Speaker is aware of a three-month deadline to decide on disqualifying 10 rebel TMC MLAs. Senior TMC MLA Sohandeb Chattopadhyay had petitioned the Speaker on July 7 for the disqualification of these MLAs for acting against party interests. The court noted the three-month period would expire on October 10. This comes after the assembly secretariat issued notices to the 10 MLAs seeking their replies to the disqualification petition.
