Karnataka Beer Sales Surge Over 40% in Six Months

The Hindu · india

Beer sales in Karnataka have seen a significant increase of 41.32% in the first six months of the financial year, rising from 195.27 lakh cases to 275.96 lakh cases. This surge is attributed to price reductions following rate rationalisation and the introduction of the "Alcohol in Beverage" (AIB) regime. In contrast, Indian Made Liquor (IML) sales grew by a mere 1.14%. The AIB regime has made high-alcohol-content IML more expensive, impacting its consumption. Overall excise revenue collection saw a 13.39% increase during this period.
