Times of India · business
India's retail inflation climbed to 5.54% in September, nearing the RBI's 6% upper tolerance limit, primarily driven by a significant surge in food prices. Food inflation rose to 7.74% from 5.97% in August, with specific items like onions, ginger, and garlic seeing substantial price increases. Rural inflation was higher at 6.08% compared to urban areas at 4.88%. This marks the highest inflation rate since the introduction of the new Consumer Price Index series with a 2024 base year.
