Rabi Sowing Falls Sharply Due To Deficient Monsoon; Wheat Sowing Lags

Business Standard · business

Rabi crop sowing, including wheat, has significantly lagged behind last year, with the total area covered down 46 per cent to 37.56 lakh hectares by October 30. Wheat sowing is particularly affected, with only 19,000 hectares covered compared to 3.34 lakh hectares last year, primarily due to insufficient soil moisture. Pulses and oilseeds also show substantial decreases in acreage. Experts attribute the delay to a 13 per cent deficient monsoon and lower irrigation availability, impacting crucial wheat-growing regions.
