India's Census 2027 to Count More Persons With Disabilities
Hindustan Times · india
India's upcoming Census 2027 is expected to record a higher number of persons with disabilities, potentially exceeding the 2.68 crore counted in 2011. This increase is anticipated due to the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act (2016), which recognizes 21 types of disabilities. The census will feature India's first fully digital enumeration, including a web-based self-enumeration option designed to reduce stigma and improve reporting accuracy. Past challenges included societal stigma and the direct questioning method, which made disclosure difficult.
