Mehrdad Akhlaghi Ketabchi, a veteran of Iran's missile industry with ties to the Revolutionary Guards, has been appointed as Iran's new defense minister. His nomination by President Masoud Pezeshkian was approved by Parliament with 237 votes in favour. Akhlaghi, described as the "architect of Guards' missiles," has over four decades of experience in Iran's defense industries, focusing on missile propulsion systems and ballistic missile development. He previously headed the Shahid Bagheri Industrial Group and later the Defence Industries Organisation. His appointment comes amid ongoing conflict and international sanctions.
