Currently, women hold 28.4% of Congress seats and 28% of governorships, historically higher numbers but still underrepresenting the 51% female population. Structural barriers, high campaign costs, and cultural biases contribute to this disparity. Despite challenges, 152 women are currently in the House and Senate, with 125 women serving as representatives. The elections will decide the composition of Congress for the next two years.
