An intact black-and-red ware bowl with five graffiti signs, discovered near Salem, may offer vital clues to a writing system that existed over 3,200 years ago. Archaeologists believe this sequence of marks could be an early form of writing and a precursor to the Tamil Brahmi script. The find is contemporary to the Indus Valley Civilization, with similar graffiti marks found across Tamil Nadu and Indus Valley sites showing high similarities. The site also yielded iron weapons, copper objects, and a possible steel sword, along with complete skeletal remains.
