Twins' Hydrogel Prevents Wildfire Reignition Longer

Riverside twins Henry and Jack Grover developed a sprayable hydrogel to prevent wildfire reignition after nearly losing their home. Their innovation keeps hot material from reigniting nine times longer than water alone. The twins tested nine hydrogels, focusing on water retention and adhesion to surfaces like leaves. Their hydrogel-treated charcoal took 27 minutes to reignite, compared to three minutes for water-treated charcoal. This project earned them a spot among the Top 30 finalists for the Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge.

रिवरसाइड के जुड़वां भाइयों हेनरी और जैक ग्रोवर ने अपने घर को लगभग खो देने के बाद, जंगल की आग को फिर से सुलगने से रोकने के लिए एक स्प्रे करने योग्य हाइड्रोज़ेल विकसित किया है। उनका यह आविष्कार पानी की तुलना में 9 गुना ज़्यादा देर तक गर्म सामग्री को फिर से सुलगने से रोकता है। भाइयों ने पानी को बनाए रखने और पत्तियों जैसी सतहों पर चिपकने पर ध्यान केंद्रित करते हुए नौ हाइड्रोज़ेल का परीक्षण किया। उनके हाइड्रोज़ेल से उपचारित चारकोल को फिर से सुलगने में 27 मिनट लगे, जबकि पानी से उपचारित चारकोल को केवल 3 मिनट लगे। इस प्रोजेक्ट ने उन्हें Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge के टॉप 30 फाइनलिस्ट में जगह दिलाई है।
