A Chinese cargo ship, the Dubai Tower, is completing a three-week journey from Qingdao to England via the Northern Sea Route, a shortcut that shaves thousands of kilometres off traditional shipping lanes. This route, along Russia's northern coast, could cut transit time significantly compared to journeys through the Middle East. China, which considers itself a 'near-Arctic state', is increasing its activity in the region, exploring resource projects and deepening ties with Russia.
