Japan Business Optimism Rises in BoJ Survey Despite Economic Headwinds

Japan's business confidence has improved for the sixth consecutive quarter, according to the Bank of Japan's latest tankan survey. Sentiment among large manufacturers rose to 24 from 22, indicating a positive outlook. However, sentiment among large non-manufacturers saw a slight dip to 35 from 37. This optimism persists despite significant economic challenges, including a weak yen, rising import costs, and high oil prices. The Bank of Japan has been implementing monetary policy normalisation, raising interest rates to 1.25 per cent.
