Kerala Forest Land Survey Amid Elephant Corridor Dispute
The Hindu · india
The Forest department and Plantation Corporation Kerala will jointly survey leased forest land at Athirappilly following disputes over lease violations and obstruction of an elephant corridor. The two-hectare holding's lease expired a decade ago, and the corporation's renewal proposal faced opposition due to alleged encroachment into wildlife habitats. A study will identify areas needed for wildlife movement and connectivity to reduce human-wildlife conflicts. The department also cited a High Court order against sub-leasing and private arrangements violating lease conditions.
