SBI Chairman: Deposit Rates Unlikely To Rise For Up To 3 Months

Business Standard · business

State Bank of India Chairman C S Setty stated that deposit rates are unlikely to increase for the next three months due to excess liquidity in the banking system. He anticipates that the Reserve Bank of India's shift towards rate tightening will benefit banks' net interest margins for up to three quarters. Setty also noted that while depositors need positive real interest rates amid rising inflation, sustained high credit growth might eventually necessitate deposit rate hikes for some banks. He believes SBI can maintain its loan book expansion at 14-15%.
