India's burgeoning space sector, opened in 2020 with private investment and startups, lacks essential statutory backing due to the absence of a Space Act. While policies and regulatory bodies like IN-SPACe exist, a parliamentary law is crucial to address critical issues. These include regulator powers, authorization processes, liability, insurance, asset ownership, and international obligations. Major spacefaring nations have enacted such legislation, making India an outlier.

भारत का अंतरिक्ष क्षेत्र, जो 2020 में निजी निवेश और स्टार्टअप्स के लिए खुला, एक स्पेस एक्ट न होने के कारण ज़रूरी कानूनी समर्थन से महरूम है। हालाँकि नीतियाँ और IN-SPACe जैसे नियामक मौजूद हैं, लेकिन नियामक की शक्तियाँ, अनुमति प्रक्रिया, देनदारी, बीमा, संपत्ति का मालिकाना हक़ और अंतर्राष्ट्रीय दायित्वों जैसे अहम मुद्दों के लिए संसद का कानून ज़रूरी है। बड़े अंतरिक्ष वाले देशों ने ऐसा कानून बनाया है, जिससे भारत अलग-थलग पड़ गया है।
