India Notifies Rules Allowing Cars to Run on 100% Ethanol Fuel
Times of India · automobile
The Indian government has officially notified changes to the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, permitting flex-fuel vehicles capable of running on up to 100% ethanol-blended petrol. This regulatory update comes just months before several car manufacturers are scheduled to launch their E100 models. The amendments specifically update emission provisions to include E100 alongside E85, clarifying that these fuels are only for specially designed and certified vehicles. This move aims to reduce reliance on crude oil imports and lower tailpipe emissions, as ethanol has a lower fossil carbon footprint than conventional petrol.
