Gujarat HC Upholds Conviction In Fake Currency Case, Reduces Sentence

The Gujarat High Court has upheld the conviction of Mohammed Mahefuz Shaikh in a fake Indian currency notes (FICN) case. The court modified his seven-year sentence, reducing it to the period he has already served in prison. Shaikh had already spent four years and eight months of his sentence, which was awarded in November 2022. The case originated from a Directorate of Revenue Intelligence operation in June 2019, where counterfeit notes with a face value of Rs 2 lakh were seized.

गुजरात हाई कोर्ट ने नकली भारतीय मुद्रा नोट (FICN) मामले में मोहम्मद महफूज शेख की सज़ा को बरकरार रखा है। कोर्ट ने उनकी सात साल की सज़ा को संशोधित कर उस अवधि तक कम कर दिया है जो उन्होंने जेल में पहले ही काट ली है। शेख ने अपनी सज़ा का चार साल और आठ महीने का समय पहले ही जेल में बिताया था, जो उन्हें नवंबर 2022 में सुनाई गई थी। यह मामला जून 2019 में डायरेक्टरेट ऑफ रेवेन्यू इंटेलिजेंस के एक ऑपरेशन से शुरू हुआ था, जिसमें 2 लाख रुपये के नकली नोट जब्त किए गए थे।
