Centre Orders Inquiry Into Forest Law Violations For Uttarakhand HC Move

Times of India · environment

The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has directed the Uttarakhand government to investigate alleged violations of forest conservation laws concerning the proposed relocation of the High Court from Nainital to Haldwani. This directive follows a complaint regarding the transfer of 30 hectares of reserve forest land for a new judicial complex. An earlier proposal involving 26.08 hectares was rejected by a central forest clearance committee. The complaint argues that the diversion of forest land for a non-site-specific project violates the Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980, and central guidelines.
