Odisha Mandates Pedestrian Paths For Roads

The Odisha government has proposed the draft Odisha Pedestrian Safety Rules, 2026, making pedestrian paths mandatory for all new and upgraded roads. These rules aim to enhance safety by ensuring continuous footpaths on both sides of urban roads, especially in high-footfall areas and near schools and hospitals. The legislation also prescribes action against road agencies, contractors, or consultants for faulty designs leading to pedestrian injuries or deaths. Violators face penalties under the Motor Vehicles Act, with provisions for vehicle removal.

ओडिशा में सड़कों पर पैदल पथ अनिवार्य

ओडिशा सरकार ने 'ओडिशा पेडेस्ट्रियन सेफ्टी रूल्स, 2026' का ड्राफ्ट तैयार किया है। इसके तहत, सभी नई और अपग्रेड होने वाली सड़कों पर पैदल चलने वालों के लिए रास्ते बनाना अब ज़रूरी होगा। इसका मकसद शहरी सड़कों, खासकर भीड़भाड़ वाले इलाकों, स्कूलों और अस्पतालों के पास, दोनों तरफ लगातार फुटपाथ बनाकर सुरक्षा बढ़ाना है। अगर डिज़ाइन खराब होने से किसी को चोट लगती है या जान जाती है, तो संबंधित एजेंसी, ठेकेदार या सलाहकार पर कार्रवाई होगी।
