The Bombay High Court has overturned stamp duty demands amounting to crores of rupees against firms involved in Goregaon property transactions. Justice Amit Borkar ruled that authorities must examine the entire chain of documents to determine if multiple deals formed a single principal transaction. This decision came after hearing four petitions challenging a 2016 order by the deputy controller of stamps. The court emphasized that stamp duty cannot be assessed solely on the final conveyance document without considering the circumstances and connections between earlier agreements.

बॉम्बे हाईकोर्ट ने गोरेगांव प्रॉपर्टी सौदों में शामिल फर्मों के खिलाफ करोड़ों रुपये की स्टाम्प ड्यूटी की मांगों को पलट दिया है। जस्टिस अमित Borkar ने फैसला सुनाया कि अधिकारियों को यह निर्धारित करने के लिए दस्तावेजों की पूरी श्रृंखला की जांच करनी चाहिए कि क्या कई सौदों ने एक ही मुख्य लेनदेन का गठन किया है। यह निर्णय डिप्टी कंट्रोलर ऑफ स्टाम्प्स के 2016 के आदेश को चुनौती देने वाली चार याचिकाओं पर सुनवाई के बाद आया। अदालत ने इस बात पर जोर दिया कि परिस्थितियों और पिछले समझौतों के बीच संबंधों पर विचार किए बिना केवल अंतिम कन्वेयंस दस्तावेज़ पर स्टाम्प ड्यूटी का आकलन नहीं किया जा सकता है।
