The Calcutta High Court has directed the state to pay Rs 5,36,000 in compensation to a tea garden worker. This payment is for his illegal detention for two months in 2018, despite being granted bail. The court cited mental agony and job loss as reasons for the compensation. The worker, who earned Rs 600 daily, had sought Rs 20 lakh. The court calculated the compensation based on his daily earnings and the duration of his unlawful custody, ordering payment within four weeks.

कलकत्ता हाईकोर्ट ने राज्य को एक चाय बागान मजदूर को ₹5,36,000 का मुआवजा देने का निर्देश दिया है। यह भुगतान 2018 में दो महीने की अवैध हिरासत के लिए है, जबकि उसे जमानत मिल चुकी थी। अदालत ने मुआवजे के कारणों के तौर पर मानसिक पीड़ा और नौकरी छूटने का हवाला दिया। मजदूर, जो प्रतिदिन ₹600 कमाता था, ने ₹20 लाख मांगे थे। अदालत ने उसकी दैनिक कमाई और अवैध हिरासत की अवधि के आधार पर मुआवजे की गणना की और चार सप्ताह के भीतर भुगतान का आदेश दिया।
