Elon Musk's preferred candidate, Republican Ken Paxton, has lost the Texas midterm election to Democrat James Talarico. Musk reportedly spent $212 million supporting Paxton's campaign through external political groups, funding numerous advertisements. This loss is significant as it marks the first Democratic midterm victory in Texas in over three decades. Talarico's campaign focused on issues of corruption and the influence of billionaires in politics, directly challenging Paxton and Musk's financial involvement. Musk had publicly criticized Talarico's stance on border policies.
