Finance Minister Urges Steel Makers To Boost Specialty Steel Output

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has called upon domestic steel producers to prioritize decarbonisation and increase the output of specialty steel. This initiative aims to reduce India's reliance on imported specialty steel. The government has introduced a PLI scheme for specialty steel with an outlay of Rs 6,300 crore to encourage domestic manufacturing and technological upgrades. Sitharaman noted that India's steel consumption, currently at 109 kg per person, has significant room for growth compared to the global average of 209 kg.

वित्त मंत्री निर्मला सीतारमण ने घरेलू स्टील उत्पादकों से डीकार्बोनाइजेशन को प्राथमिकता देने और विशेष स्टील के उत्पादन को बढ़ाने का आह्वान किया है। इस पहल का उद्देश्य विशेष स्टील पर भारत की निर्भरता को कम करना है। सरकार ने घरेलू विनिर्माण और तकनीकी उन्नयन को प्रोत्साहित करने के लिए 6,300 करोड़ रुपये के परिव्यय के साथ विशेष स्टील के लिए एक PLI योजना शुरू की है। सीतारमण ने कहा कि भारत की स्टील की खपत, जो वर्तमान में 109 किलोग्राम प्रति व्यक्ति है, वैश्विक औसत 209 किलोग्राम की तुलना में वृद्धि के लिए महत्वपूर्ण अवसर प्रदान करती है।
