The Congress party in Assam faces significant challenges after a disastrous performance in the Nagaon parliamentary constituency bypoll. The party, which had secured 50% of the vote in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, plummeted to just 8.9% in the recent bypoll. This decline occurred after MP Pradyut Bordoloi defected to the BJP. Badruddin Ajmal's AIUDF secured a strong 39.3% vote share, emerging as the runner-up and signalling a potential resurgence.
