Kochi Corporation Approves 30 Projects Worth ₹1,500 Crore for Urban Challenge Fund

The Kochi Corporation Council has approved a concept note for 30 projects valued at over ₹1,500 crore, aiming for funding under the Union government's Urban Challenge Fund (UCF). This initiative, part of the Kochi@2050 vision, prioritizes revenue-generating projects and encourages market-based financing mechanisms for urban development. The UCF, running from 2026 to 2031, will provide a 25% grant, with the remaining cost to be sourced through bonds, loans, and PPPs. Kochi aims to be the first municipal body to submit concept notes for this scheme.

कोच्चि कॉर्पोरेशन काउंसिल ने ₹1,500 करोड़ से ज़्यादा की 30 परियोजनाओं के लिए एक कॉन्सेप्ट नोट को मंज़ूरी दे दी है। इसका मकसद केंद्र सरकार के अर्बन चैलेंज फंड (UCF) के तहत फंडिंग हासिल करना है। यह पहल, कोच्चि@2050 विज़न का हिस्सा है और इसमें ऐसे प्रोजेक्ट्स को प्राथमिकता दी गई है जिनसे आमदनी हो सके। साथ ही, शहरी विकास के लिए बाज़ार-आधारित फाइनेंसिंग के तरीकों को भी बढ़ावा दिया जाएगा। UCF, जो 2026 से 2031 तक चलेगा, 25% ग्रांट देगा और बाकी का खर्च बॉन्ड, लोन और PPP के ज़रिए जुटाया जाएगा। कोच्चि इस स्कीम के लिए कॉन्सेप्ट नोट सबमिट करने वाला पहला म्युनिसिपल बॉडी बनना चाहता है।
