Higher Education Can Lengthen Job Search, Indian Report Suggests
TV9 Hindi · education
Contrary to expectations, higher education in India can lead to longer job searches. Graduates face a 29.1% unemployment rate, significantly higher than the 3.4% for illiterate individuals. While this reflects a preference for better jobs rather than unemployment, a concerning gap exists between academic learning and employer needs. A recent report indicates that only 56.35% of Indian graduates are considered job-ready, highlighting a disconnect in essential skills. Furthermore, educated unemployed women constitute 76.7% of the educated unemployed population.
