Google Faces £1 Billion UK Lawsuit Over App Store Fees

Economic Times - Tech · technology

Google is fighting a £1 billion lawsuit in London accusing it of abusing its dominance to charge excessive app store commissions. The case, brought on behalf of around 20 million consumers, alleges Google levied up to 30% commissions on app purchases and in-app spending between 2015 and July. Lawyers claim these costs were passed on to consumers. Google denies the allegations, stating the Android platform offers consumer choice and its fees are competitive, citing market constraints from rivals like Apple's App Store.
