Michigan scientists have successfully killed over 80% of invasive zebra mussels in just five days using carbon dioxide-infused benthic mats. In an experiment at Loon Lake, the CO2 mats proved significantly more effective than ordinary mats alone. This innovative method aims to selectively target invasive species while minimizing harm to native freshwater mussels. The research explored using CO2 as a concentrated toxin, keeping it near the lakebed.

मिशिगन के वैज्ञानिकों ने कार्बन डाइऑक्साइड वाले मैट का इस्तेमाल करके सिर्फ पाँच दिनों में 80% से ज़्यादा ज़हरीले ज़ेबरा मसल्स को मार दिया। लून लेक में हुए एक प्रयोग में, CO2 मैट आम मैट से कहीं ज़्यादा असरदार साबित हुए। इस नए तरीके से बाहरी प्रजातियों को चुना जाएगा और मीठे पानी के देशी मसल्स को कम नुकसान होगा। रिसर्च में CO2 को झील के तल पर ही रखने की कोशिश की गई।
