Maharashtra Farmers Criticize Rs 5,000 Drought Relief as Insulting
Times of India · india
Maharashtra's state government announced an interim drought assistance package of Rs 5,000 for farmers in 305 drought-hit tehsils, to be disbursed before Diwali. However, the farming community has strongly criticized the amount, calling it grossly inadequate and an insult given their mounting losses. Farmers argue that the sum fails to address the scale of devastation from drought and crop damage, nor does it help with mounting debts.
