SBI Report Suggests RBI Widen LAF Corridor To Stabilise Markets

A State Bank of India report suggests the Reserve Bank of India should consider widening the liquidity adjustment facility (LAF) corridor to stabilise financial markets amid global uncertainty. The report notes that recent rate increases have had little impact on bond yields or the rupee. Widening the corridor, a measure previously used during turbulent times in 2013, 2020, and 2022, could be more effective than waiting for the next rate action. The RBI has the authority to manage liquidity independently of the Monetary Policy Committee's decisions on policy rates.
