The Hindu · india
The Central government has notified new questions for the 2027 Census, seeking extensive personal details beyond traditional demographic information. These include parents' and spouses' details, nationality, permanent address, COVID-19 vaccination status, bank accounts, mobile number, Aadhaar, Voter ID, passport, and driving license information. Critics argue many of these details cannot generate useful statistics. The inclusion of such sensitive personal data raises significant privacy concerns and questions about the purpose and utility of these new census inquiries.
