Albania has introduced significant fines for violent demonstrators who have been protesting daily since mid-October in the capital, Tirana. The government adopted legislative measures imposing fines of up to 500,000 leks for individuals involved in violence or looting in public spaces while concealing their identity. Police also gained powers to restrict gatherings in certain areas if violence is a risk. These measures, inspired by a French bill, aim to hold protesters financially liable for damages, which have already exceeded two million euros.
