Bengaluru Designers Reimagine Flyover Space With Swings, Seats & Greenery

The Better India · lifestyle

Urban designers Nishita Parmar and Vedanti Agarwal, working with Compartment S4, have reimagined underutilized flyover spaces in Bengaluru to better serve pedestrians. At Racecourse Junction, they observed that fewer vehicles used a particular left turn, while more pedestrians needed to cross that stretch. The team redesigned the junction to include a pedestrian refuge island, seating, and waiting areas, reducing the time pedestrians spend exposed to traffic. This initiative, part of the Orbital project commissioned by BBMP, aims to make streets more people-centric.
