Canadian AI firm Cohere and German company Aleph Alpha have agreed to merge, creating a combined entity that will operate under the Cohere name with dual headquarters in Toronto and Berlin. The merger aims to meet growing demand for AI systems that can operate within a customer's infrastructure and comply with local regulations. The deal, previously valued at around $20 billion, includes a €500 million investment from Lidl-owner Schwarz Group.
