Palnadu Dairy Farmers Face Crisis Amidst Fodder Shortage And Falling Milk Yields

Times of India · environment

Dairy farmers and livestock herders in Palnadu district are facing a severe crisis due to a significant fodder shortage and declining milk yields. Groundwater depletion and inadequate rainfall have led to barren grazing lands and drying water sources, drastically increasing livestock maintenance costs. The price of fodder has tripled, with a bundle now costing nearly Rs 240, up from Rs 80 a month ago. This situation is compounded by the looming threat of El Niño, raising concerns about future rainfall and water availability for the region's approximately 1.84 lakh animals.
