Eurozone Bond Selloff to Curb Inflation, Weigh on Growth: Lagarde
Economic Times Markets · stocks
European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde stated that a global bond selloff is tightening financial conditions in the Eurozone, increasing borrowing costs and impacting economic growth and inflation. Rising global bond yields reflect concerns over government debt, persistent inflation, and competition for credit. Lagarde noted that tighter financing conditions will slow economic activity and reduce the pass-through of higher energy prices to inflation, though the impact may differ from projections. The ECB faces the challenge of containing inflation without excessively pressuring the economy.
