Retired Judge Refuses ₹3 Lakh Monthly Honorarium

Retired Madras High Court judge V. Bharathidasan has relinquished a monthly honorarium of ₹3 lakh offered by the Tamil Nadu government. He was appointed to supervise the court-initiated 'Sezhumai Karuvoolam' operation aimed at eradicating the invasive Prosopis juliflora species from the state. The judge requested the funds be used for the eradication program instead of personal benefit. The government had sanctioned ₹72 lakh for the honorarium for him and another retired judge.

चेन्नई: मद्रास हाई कोर्ट के रिटायर्ड जज वी. भरथिदासण ने तमिलनाडु सरकार से मिलने वाला ₹3 लाख का मासिक मानदेय लेने से मना कर दिया है। उन्हें राज्य से प्रोसोपिस जूलिफ्लोरा (एक खरपतवार) को खत्म करने के लिए 'सेझुमई करुवूलम' ऑपरेशन की देखरेख के लिए नियुक्त किया गया था। जज ने कहा कि यह पैसा उनके बजाय इस काम में ही इस्तेमाल हो। सरकार ने दो जजों के लिए ₹72 लाख की मंजूरी दी थी।
